Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam, Jazmine's mother is an ex-backing singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five her father was appointed to be Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historical building. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student, she is a major in the field of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus in the contralto position, and then she joined the adult chorus just a few years after that. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I was doing solos in churches and a person wanted me to go on the gospel label at age was 11 years old, but I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept What God Gives' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience loved it". At the age 13 she performed with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. She recorded the entire album but the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer on a couple of tracks from her debut album. Among them "Backstabbers" the buzz track produced by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
